As a starting point, assume that what’s true for most other people will be true for you. Try to feel positive about the idea that you’re like everybody else rather than disappointed you’re not more special. A big advantage of being like other people is that all these biases are well studied. Whenever thinking errors are negatively impacting you, you can take simple, practical steps to lessen that impact. For example, in the case of signing up for free trials and then forgetting to cancel, you could institute a personal policy of always buying al-la-carte, rather than getting sucked in to subscriptions or contracts (more on this in chapter 13).
